1- Not knowing the exact date of Black Friday
The first mistake I made was thinking that Black Friday started on November 23. But as you know, the start date of Black Friday in Dubai is November 24.
When I entered Dubai stores on November 23, 2022, I was surprised that they were quiet because every year, on Black Friday, many people go to the stores to buy discounted goods.
It was there that I realized that I had gone to shopping malls a day earlier. So, if you don’t want to make the same mistake as me, mark the exact date of Black Friday on your calendar.
2- Not preparing the shopping list
I went to the Dubai Mall on November 24 because I knew that many stores in the mall would be selling their goods at a discount.
When I entered the Dubai Mall, I saw a few local people, and most of the people who were shopping were Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi immigrants and travelers.
I was so excited to shop that was the reason why I hadn’t prepared a list of what I needed.
Since I didn’t have a shopping list, I didn’t know what to buy, so some of the purchases I made didn’t include discounts.
I bought a refrigerator, TV, PlayStation, and hairdryer. But since I won’t be in Dubai for long, I had to ship the fridge and TV to my home in California, so I paid extra to ship them and had to use the money I saved because of the discount. I had to pay for shipping the goods to California.
The only purchase that made a profit was PlayStation. I am very fond of video games, and I like to play video games every night in the hotel.
If you don’t want to buy unnecessary goods like me, bring a shopping list with you.
3- Be aware of fake discounts
When I wanted to buy a hair dryer, I quickly entered one of the shops that sold its hair dryers with a 50% discount.
I bought a hair dryer regardless of the price, but when I got back to the hotel and checked the price on other websites, I realized that the seller gave me a fake discount and sold me the hair dryer at the same price as the original.
So, before buying any product on Black Friday, you must compare the price of that product on other websites such as Google Shopping and buy the discount if it is real.
4- Make sure of the return product rules
Some stores tend to change their return policies during Black Friday, limiting them or not accepting returns at all.
When I found out the real price of the hair dryer I bought, I decided to return it, but the store did not take my product back due to the return product rules.
So, before buying from a store, find out about the return rules, and if they do not agree to take back the purchased goods, never buy from them.
Some stores operate on social networks and post their discount list there.
Before going to any store, you should follow their social networks on Facebook or Instagram to find out about the discounts of the stores, compare their prices, and then make a purchase.
6- Go to the store early in the morning for shopping
From the very beginning of the day, shops open their doors for customers to buy the products they want, and because of this, the products that have a big discount run out quickly.
I went to Dubai Mall for shopping in the afternoon, and because I was late there, most of the items that were sold at a good discount were sold out, and I had to buy the items that were less discounted.
So, try not to go to work on Friday and go to shopping malls early in the morning.
